Standing In My Blackness 24/7

I have more to say

So, as many of you know me, there are those of you who don’t  know me, however, I’m a parent of four and I have two lovely grandchildren. I’m currently raising one of my grandchildren and am invested in her rearing. I’m teaching her about her Melanin beautiful brown skin, the importance of it, and how to care for it as well. During this month I’m receiving messages from her school PTA because, yes, I’m that one that’s posting or engaging I should say.  I chose to engage with her PTA president who makes post every day. While being in the month of February, I just knew she was going to start off with a post with a black history moment. However, by the time  we reached day eight I had yet to see one.

Mind you, I sent a message to the PTA president, stating that this is Black History Month. We’re only provided 28 days and I knew for sure you’d provide posts of stories regarding Black Historians just as you’d provided for any other months and holidays? Her response, “Oh I do have some things in the works and we’re going to do a few things this month.”

I responded, “I look forward to it!” However to my dismay, we reached day 10 and I’d yet to see a black history post!

So what did I do? I posted a message again on the PTA chat and I said “we’re on day ten and I’ve yet to see a black history post honoring any black historians! If you know better, you’ll do better, in order to obtain change you must demand it!”

That was it!

Next, I get a message back, and guess what ??? Three postings followed! One from a TK teacher reading a book about Edna Lewis.

Followed by a Black History moment and a Black Historian photo.

The other one is from the PTA president talking about these are some things you can do at home !

Well you can imagine that infuriated me more. So instead of giving her a word, I simply went on Google Found an autobiography of Shirley Chisholm copied it went back to the comment section under each of her post that she chose to post and I posted the story of Shirley Chisholm on three different Post!

Not only will I post that on February 10, 2023 however I’m going to add to the PTA post for the remainder of February!

I have 12 days left to make this a teachable moment, sharing

About  black historians who have paved the way !

Until the next blog post ! Make it a great day and be blessed!
